About Jan.

I believe my extensive martial arts, yoga, and business management background prepared me for my return to higher education and equipped me with the tenacity needed to accomplish my goals.

I believe creating new spaces for individuals to examine the dimensions of wellness from both evidence-based perspectives and anecdotal viewpoints will allow for a shift in the paradigms which have become a part of both our state of wellbeing and current healthcare system reality

Wellbeing is vital to us all. Understanding wellness incorporates abstract ideas, phenomena intertwined with personal culture, tradition, psychological themes, and evidence-based research. Wellness is an active process and it’s subjective.

I believe my karate training prepared me for my return to higher education and equipped me with the tenacity needed to accomplish my goals. One of my goals was to earn both a bachelor’s and master’s degree within four years and I have accomplished that lofty goal! I entered SUNY Empire State College in January of 2013 with only nineteen credits and graduated in June of 2015 with a B.S. I went right back at it in September 2015. I enrolled in a master’s program and completed my studies in December 2017.

Throughout my many years of martial arts education I have learned about culture, history, self-awareness, self-defense, psychology, leadership, perseverance, nutrition, meditation, and compassion, just to name a few. I have made a life being of service to others. Over these many years I have had the privilege to be an instrument of change in people’s lives through teaching martial arts and yoga.

Wellbeing is vital to us all. Understanding wellness incorporates abstract ideas, phenomena intertwined with personal culture, tradition, psychological themes, and evidence-based research. Wellness is an active process and it’s subjective. I believe everyone is capable of living their best life. There is something to be said for pushing yourself past what you believe are your limits. Many of us need someone else to help us do that. You see, the human body longs to take the easy route; most of us crack when it gets too tough.

My passion is people and assisting them in any way I can. One of my greatest satisfactions is to witness and play a role in people’s journey toward achieving their goals! I believe if we feel better about ourselves, we become agents of change and who we are ripples out into the world around us.
